Jared sent me a text earlier, saying to pack a bag and be ready by four. It’s already after three, so I finish dusting my bookshelves, pack an overnight bag, and then take a shower. I shave everywhere and wash my hair, moisturize, put on some light makeup, and dry my hair.
The buzzer blares, and I walk over to the door to press the button for the intercom. “Yes?” I ask.
“Let me in, or I’ll huff and I’ll—”
I snort and remove my finger, effectively cutting Jared off. After hitting the button for the downstairs doors, I quickly rush to put some nude gloss on my lips. I try to play it cool and smooth a finger over my brows, but when a knock sounds on my apartment door, I haul ass down the hallway and swing it open. Jared leans against the doorframe with one arm raised above his head. His lips twitch, pulling into a smile when he tilts his head, his green eyes dancing as they move over my face.
“Close the door,” he suddenly says.
“What? Why?”
“Because sometimes when these eyes of mine land upon you, they have trouble believing what they’re seeing.”
“Oh.” My voice is all stunned breath as it wheezes out of my lungs.
His hand drops from the top of the doorframe, and he takes a step forward, hooking an arm around my waist and crushing my chest to his. “Surely, you’re aware that your beauty transcends all reason.” My eyes close as his nose brushes against mine while he moves us forward and the door closes behind him. “Frost?”
“Mmm?” My eyelids flutter open as I try to surface from the dual effects of his compliment and his scent.
He chuckles. “And you said you didn’t want to be courted.” He lowers his voice to a whisper. “Liar.”
I slap his chest, stepping back. “Don’t go and ruin it, asshole.”
He catches my hand, pulling me back to him and brushing some hair behind my ear. The scowl on my face disappears. “Are you wet? I bet you’re wet …” His hand drops to tug up my dress, and the scowl returns.
“Dick.” I move away to get my bag from my room.
“I could say so many things to that, but I’m looking forward to sinking said dick inside you too much to risk it,” he calls out.
I laugh quietly, grabbing my phone and bag before moving back down the hallway.
Dropping my bag by the door, I then try to find where he disappeared to. He’s in my library, trailing a finger over one of my bookshelves. Standing in the entryway, I try not to twitch as I watch him. Those books are my Achilles’ heel, so to speak. One of the only weaknesses I have.
“Quite the collection you have here,” he murmurs, now running his finger over the spines of some of my old classics. It takes everything in me to stay still, to stay exactly where I am and not run over there to smack his hand away.
I know. I have issues when it comes to my freaking books.
